As it Should Be !!

This cruise is dedicated to, and a celebration of, all of the men and women who have answered their country's call to duty.

This is an easy thing for us to do now, as the whole country stands behind those who answer the call. Unfortunately, 40 years ago the story was much different. Our fighting men and women, who returned from the Vietnam war, were treated with disdain instead of respect; jeers instead of handshakes and insults instead of praise. Many of them refused to admit that they had participated. It was easier to forget about it and get on with life.

In recent years, our country has taken on a new outlook on those returning from war. Whether you agree with the war or not, most people will have nothing but respect, praise and handshakes for those that did what was asked of them by Uncle Sam.

My son, an Iraqi veteran, finally convinced my husband to purchase a ball cap that read "Vietnam Veteran" about 2 years ago. It was the first time that he would publicly admit that he had been there. Since the day he purchased that hat, he has gotten more "Thank you's" and handshakes than in all of the previous 40 years. This is a tribute to the evolving mindset of our population.

That's what this cruise is all about. All veterans, no matter where or when they served, being proud of their accomplishments and sharing their stories.

As it Should Be !!

wow! a blog for the cruise! that is fantastic!

i remember when sarge charlie, my husband, was thanked for his service for the first time. he cried afterward. it was a little old man in a country gas station in mississippi. he was sitting on a barrel and when sarge walked by he tipped his hat and said thanks! sarge had on a hat that said retired military. that was just a few years ago and he has been out for some time now.

wonderful blog!!!

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE, that is about all I have to say about that.

Tell your husband that the Old Sarge said WELCOME HOME.

Please contact all the veterans you know. Post a notice in your veterans publication. Lets get this going big. I know that we all would like to thank all the vets we see on a daily basis. I know this can be big. Thanks to Beverly for helping us get this going.

I would hate to be the photographer standing in front of a group of buttons ready to pop off.
Seriously, we look forward to having you and welcome

"I would hate to be the photographer standing in front of a group of buttons ready to pop off." - Good Point Namvet!!! That could be a VERY Dangerous position!!!! Especially if it happened a couple of days into the cruise, all those buffet lines, beats Mess Hall food hands down!! And let's not forget C-Rations or MRE's. What was it before C-Rations, K-Rations??

When I first got to Vietnam, they had given us K-rations from Korea. I worked in a POW compound taking care of prisoners. They got rations that met the Geneva Convention standards and we got K-rations. Go figure.
I am sure that the food on the ship will be good.
I guess you noticed that they pulled the Salute to Veterans cruise off of Cruise Critic. We need to spread the word. Have anyone interested in the cruise contact either myself or Beverly

I'm thinking I'll go to CC and post a question, "Whatever Happened To...."
The "Salute to Veterans Cruise" and see what kind of comments/replies it gets.

Any thoughts???

I have been hoping that someone would do that. I hesitate because I am the one that is responsible for it being taken off. I had contacted them over 3 weeks ago saying that I was ready to get the cruise going and myself being the contact for it. I have not received a response up till now. I feel that someone (one of the posters) contacted them because he had asked me to use a group he was involved in.
Do it if you would just to see what kind of answers you get.
How can we get the word out to the others that were interested in it?

Namvet, I'll go to CC as soon as I post this message. Might be interesting, or may just get deleted/misplaced again.

Well folks, it happened, I got banned from the cruise critic until Mar. 9 for posting a link to information on a non cruise critic cruise. I wonder why they never responded to my email 3 weeks ago asking to set up a cruise critic sponsored Salute to Veterans cruise?
Oh well, their loss

Don,
Sorry to hear about your being banned from CC. It is totally amazing how they dictate exactly what should be posted on what is supposed to be a public forum. I guess if I were willing to pony up lots of $$$$, I could have been an APPROVED CC TA, then it wouldn't have been a problem.

Oh well, as you said, their loss. We'll have a fantastic group and it will be a wonderful time.
